Citrus Heights, after a long battle with Sacramento County, became the fifth city in the county when it officially incorporated in January of 1997. Located next to Roseville, and butting up to the unincorporated communities of Orangevale, Fair Oaks and Carmichael, Citrus Heights sits centrally located in the county.
The 80,000 plus residents that call Citrus Heights home are served by the Citrus Heights police department, which took over law enforcement duties for the community in 2006.
Schools
The primary school district serving Citrus Heights is the San Juan School District. Within the city limits of Citrus Heights there are ten elementary schools, one middle school and two high schools. For a list of the schools serving Citrus Heights, see the link to the right.
Access to Employment Centers – Citrus Heights is centrally located in Sacramento County, right along Interstate 80, with easy access to major employment centers in downtown Sacramento, along the Highway 50 corridor and north to Roseville and Rocklin. To get to out-of-town meetings, the Sacramento International Airport is approximately 20 miles away.
Parks
Citrus Heights is served by the Sunrise Park District, which cares for the facilities and maintains programs in the 25 parks in the city. The largest park in Citrus Heights is Rusch Park, which includes a skateboard park, extensive baseball/softball facilities, a community center and a full service aquatics center. There are two other community centers in Citrus Heights – at Crosswoods Park and at the Foothill Golf Course.
Shopping
One thing Citrus Heights has is shopping, lots of shopping. Along Sunrise Boulevard there is very little in way of retail wants and needs that can’t be met. The remodeled Sunrise Mall has over 100 stores under roof, including Macy’s, Sears, J.C. Penny and Victoria’s Secret. Directly across Sunrise Boulevard from the mall is the Sunrise Market Place that includes Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Target and Lowe’s.
